Boccia

Boccia is a Paralympic sport of precision and strategy.

Players aim to place red or blue balls as close as possible to a white target ball called the jack. Competitions include individual, pairs and team events. Equipment and permitted assistance depend on the athlete’s sport class.

Equipment and court

  • 13 balls: 6 red, 6 blue and 1 white jack
  • Court: 12.5 × 6 m, flat surface
  • Ramps and assistants for some sport classes

Sport classes BC1–BC4

Athletes compete in sport classes BC1, BC2, BC3 and BC4, based on how their impairment affects their ability to throw. This overview does not replace official classification: eligibility for international competition is decided only through World Boccia classification. Community boccia is open to everyone, with or without a sport class.
